I'VE BEEN TOLD ITS OLD IT'S WRONG TO SECOND GUESS I WILL SIMPLY STRESS TO THE FACT
AND THE REASON THAT I CAN NOW GIVE ME FACTS BABY TELL
Jace wasn't someone that was usually on time. He had the habit of being on time, or almost late. He knew that it was better than being late all the time, but his Fordham instincts kept pushing him to be early for things. The higher ups didn't stand for anything but perfection, and perfection was being there for a meeting before you had to be. It showed them that you were capable and willing to do whatever they wanted you to, and that you were even eager to be in their presence. The only thing that Jace was out of any of that was capable. He wasn't willing, and he wasn't eager, but he made himself appear that way. He was a good actor - anyone in that world was - but today wasn't about any of that. He hadn't had any Fordham business all day, which was a good thing, since he wanted tonight to be relaxing and a nice evening, instead of him thinking about op business or Fordham in general, really. He hated having that type of thing on his mind when he was around Dmitri, or any of the people close to him, really. They were civilians, he really shouldn't be around them at all.
But he'd had that argument with himself a thousand times over, and he wouldn't be thinking about that tonight, either. He'd already decided that he was going to do this, and if need be, he'd protect Dmitri, his little sister, and that best friend of his. He couldn't let something that could possibly make him happy, slip through his fingers because of Fordham. Hadn't he already given them enough? They'd taken nineteen years of his life. Even if he didn't exactly deserve to be happy, he'd be selfish for once in his life. And not tell James that he was so hopeful, because that wouldn't go down well. He wasn't stupid, and he knew that James wouldn't approve. So he'd say nothing, and say it like it was more fact than anything. If he told his older friend anything at all. He shook his head, and raised an eyebrow at his watch. Early. He was early. Just when he'd acknowledged his inability to be early, he was early. Irony, much?
Into the apartment building, up the elevator, it was all pretty simple. He wasn't even a bit nervous, which wasn't a usual thing, because Jace was a worrier, even if he claimed he wasn't. He and Dmitri were doing movies and popcorn, a lazy night basically, but it sounded amazing to him, especially when he knew that Dmitri never really stopped working or doing other things to relax. He had to be the one to step in and take Dmitri out for coffee or for dinner, bringing him lunch when he was in the shop because he knew the man would either overlook the importance of eating regular meals, or forget to eat all together. Either way wasn't healthy, and Jace allowed himself to mother hen Dmitri just a bit. He hoped the man didn't notice too much, or that he even minded. Callen, Dmitri's best friend, let him into the Greys' apartment - which he was always in, even though he did have his own apartment - and let him know that the younger man wasn't home yet, and had been delivering flowers but had gotten held up. He was told that he was welcome to sit on the couch or at the table and wait for him, even though the other man's tone was a bit grudging. Jace nodded his thanks, taking a stiff seat on the couch and crossing one leg over the other, wondering how long Dmitri would be.
